Eight Labour MPs have now called for Gordon Brown to face a leadership challenge.
One of the MPs, Joan Ryan, has been sacked as both Labour's vice chair and Mr Brown's Cyprus envoy after joining the calls for a leadership election.
Ms Ryan said an " honest and open leadership debate" was needed fo the democracy of the party.
